With Yellowstone’s diverse range of sights and activities encased within it’s 8.2 million acres, it is worthwhile to spend several days exploring the area. There are several campsites available throughout the park. The best time to grab a spot is early morning when the previous patrons are packing up and heading off for a day of sightseeing.
The rules of the campgrounds are simple: keep you area clean. Store your food in air tight containers or use the anti bear containers supplied in the most remote camp locations.
Bridge Bay-
Features: Close to the east entrance, 5 miles away from Fishing Bridge. RV accessible with No Hookups, flush toilets, Laundry and showers, lake access with marina and boat rentals. Reservations Needed.
Canyon Village -
Features: RVs ok, No Hook Ups, showers and laundry facilities, grocery store, snack bar, cocktail lounge and restaurants. ATM Canyon Visitor Center. May see Buffalo, Grizzly and Elk. Reservations Needed.
Fishing Bridge -
Features: RV Park campground. Closest campground to the East Entrance. Hook Ups, showers, laundry, phones, ice machine, general store, Visitor center, Museum and gas station. Tons of hiking areas. Prime grizzly habitat, buffalo and moose in the evenings. Reservations Needed.
Flagg Ranch -
Features: Located on the south entrance to the park. RV w/ Full Hookups. Showers and laundry. Motel Rooms and Cabins. Restaurant, snack bar, groceries and gas. Reservations Appreciated.
Grant Village -
Features: Near the West Thumb Bay. RVs No Hookups, shower and laundry outside campgrounds. Motel, cafe, restaurant, general store, groceries, service station, post office, picnic areas and gift store. Fishing and boat launching near by. Bears generally in spring with spawning ground for trout. Reservations Needed.
Indian Creek -
Features: Near Gardner River and 6 miles away from Mammoth Store. RV’s No Hookups. Pit dug toilets. Bear proof storage lockers. Gardner river nearby for fishing. Ideal area for cyclists and hikers. No Reservations.
Lewis Lake -
Features: RV No Hookups. Pit toilets, picnic area, hiking. 3rd largest lake in Yellowstone with boat launch on north end of campground. Canoeing, fishing, brown trout and lake trout. Access to Lewis Falls. No Reservations.
Madison -
Features: Located on the Northwestern area of the park. RVs No Hookups. Flush toilets, picnic areas, information center, bookstore, overlooks Madison river. Buffalo hangout. Reservations Needed.
Mammoth -
Features: Park headquarters open all year. Clinic, post office, chapel, Ranger Center, bookstore, hotels and cabins, 2 restaurants, famous Terrance Grill, General store and Gas Station. RVs No Hookups, flush toilets, picnic areas, with wallking distance to Mammoth Hot Springs. Biking and hiking trails, elk, and coyote. No Reservations.
Norris -
Features: RVs No Hookups. Flush toilets, bookstore, soft drink machine and Norris Museum of Natural History. Home of Steamboat Geyser-worlds tallest geyser (3x that of Old Faithful) and the most active geyser in the park. Best area for hot springs, geysers, steaming streams and mud pots. Pocelain Basin. Overlooks Gibbon River, fishing and hiking. No Reservations.
Pebble Creek -
Features: RVs No Hookups. Chemical toilet, no showers. Close to Trout lake and Beck lake for fishing. Short hikes – Pebble Creek trail. Mountain scenry. No Reservations.
Slough Creek -
Features: Northern area of Yellowstone. RVs No Hookups. Pit toilets. Good fishing and hiking area. Close to Lamar Valley and Petrified Trees, elk, moose, coyote, mountain lion and bison. No Reservations.
Tower Falls -
Features: Northwestern area of Yellowstone. RVs No Hookups. Pit toilets, general store and ice cream counter. 19 miles north of Canyon Villiage and 18 miles east of Mammoth Hot Springs. Fishing, hiking, biking, nature walks on 3 different trails. No Reservations.
